Features
- 1/3 cup dry bread crumbs 75 mL
- 1/4 cup HP Sauce 50 mL (from canadianfavourites.com)
- 1 egg, beaten 1
- 3/4 tsp each salt and pepper 4 mL
- 2 tsp Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce, divided 10 mL (from canadianfavourites.com)
- 1 1/2 lb lean ground beef 750 g
- 2 cups sliced sweet onion 500 mL
- 3/4 cup Diana Sauce, Maple flavour, divided 175 mL (from canadianfavourites.com)
- 6 thick slices peameal bacon - Be creative always a challenge to find anywhere within the USA
- 6 Sliced Cheddar cheese Canadian Cheddar is Best but we forgive you!
- Hamburger buns
- Preparation:
- Blend bread crumbs with HP Sauce, egg, salt, pepper and half of the Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce; crumble in beef and mix gently. Form firmly into 6 equal patties. Chill for 30 minutes.
- Meanwhile, preheat grill to medium; grease grate well. Arrange onions in the centre of a large sheet of heavy foil. Drizzle with remaining Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce and 1/4 cup (50 mL) Diana Sauce. Fold and crimp foil edges to form a secure packet; grill for 20 minutes, turning often.
- Add burgers and bacon to grill alongside the onion packet. Grill for 6 to 7 minutes. Turn meat and baste well with remaining Diana Sauce. Grill for an additional 4 to 6 minutes or until burgers are cooked through and bacon is browned. Top burgers with sliced Cheddar cheese, grilled onions and bacon; serve on buns.
