  • It was first created in 1924 in Manitoba. The cereal takes its name from the Red River of the North, more specifically the valley around Winnipeg.
  • If you grew up on Red River Cereal, then this bread will bring back memories of goodness steaming in the kitchen. Except that now, it's baking in the bread machine. Serve toasted as a breakfast bread lightly drizzled with honey, and you'll give new meaning to toast.
  • Ingredients
  • LARGE LOAF (1 1/2 lb/3 cup or 2 lb/4 cup machine)
  • 1 1/3 cups water 325 mL
  • 2 tbsp oil 30 mL
  • 1 1/2 cups ROBIN HOOD Best For Bread Homestyle White Flour 375 mL
  • 1 1/3 cups ROBIN HOOD Best For Bread Whole Wheat Flour 325 mL
  • 1/2 cup RED RIVER cereal 125 mL
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt 7 mL
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar 30 mL
  • 1 1/2 tsp bread machine yeast 7 mL
  • Preparation
  • SELECT loaf size.
  • ADD ingredients to machine according to manufacturer’s directions.
  • SELECT Whole Wheat, Rapid or Regular Cycle.

there's nothing better than a hot, steaming bowl of Red River Cereal.  The taste and smell of those toasty grains get me out of bed faster than the aroma of fresh coffee!  The texture is coarser than most hot breakfast cereals, which makes it more satisfying to eat.  It is great for the digestion and an excellent source of fiber.
