Brownies - Yummmmmmmmmy
* 1 1/3 cups flour
* 1 teaspoon baking powder
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1 cup butter
* 1 cup fry's cocoa
* 2 cups sugar
* 3 eggs
* 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
Directions
1. Stir together flour, baking powder, and salt in small bowl.
2. Melt butter in a large saucepan. Remove from heat. Stir in cocoa.
3. Blend in sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
4. Blend in dry ingredients.
5. Pour batter into greased baking pan.
6. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until done. Cool.

In Canada, Kraft Canada continues the tradition - "Magic Baking Powder" which is double action. It uses calcium acid phosphate instead of sodium aluminum sulfate.

Canadians are increasingly concerned about trans fats in their diets. Trans fats, though naturally occurring in animal fat, are also created through a chemical process, which turns liquid oils into a semi-solid form, such as that in shortenings and some margarine.

Apple butter does not contain any dairy products, but derives its name from the buttery texture of the finished apple preserves. In fact, some people use apple butter as a condiment or spread for sandwiches, in the same way others might use mayonnaise or mustard.
Apple butter is said to be especially good on ham or pork sandwiches, since many traditional Pennsylvania Dutch or German recipes combine apples and pork-based meats. Even if apple butter is not used specifically as a sandwich spread, it is also popular as a topping for pancakes, biscuits and buttered toast.
The tradition of apple butter is thought to have been brought to North America by German settlers. These early settlers needed a way to preserve their food during the winter months. Since apples were in abundance during the fall season, they first began preserving the fruit as apple jam or applesauce. The canned applesauce did not have the shelf life they had hoped for, however a slow-cooking process was developed. The extra cooking time turned the applesauce into a more stable "apple butter," and the added spices also aided in the preservation process.

In 1847, the Fry's chocolate factory, located in Union Street, Bristol, England, moulded the first ever chocolate bar suitable for widespread consumption.
